MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders have suspended the National Supporters Committee (NSC).

Chairman of the club, Zweli Jele, did not want to go into finer details leading to the directors’ decision to suspend the supporters committee.
“The NSC has been suspended pending finalisation of our investigations,” he said.

Jele said as investigations were in progress, he could not state the reasons which led to their suspension. In the team’s weekly column, Assistant Secretary, Maxwell Masuku, wrote that the club directors had taken a decision to suspend the NSC pending finalisation of investigations into certain alleged irregularities and the convening of an AGM but in the meantime, an interim supporters committee will be put in place until the AGM.

Chairman of the NSC Kenneth Dlamini said nothing official had been communicated to the supporters committee.

Dlamini said the suspension issue was more like hearsay to them as things stand.
“The chairman (Jele) mentioned it in passing during the team’s training session,” he said.
Dlamini said suspension of a supporters committee was a sensitive issue that needed to be addressed in a formal setting.
“There is nothing formal that was communicated to us. A suspension must be formal, the reasons behind the decision to suspend the committee should be communicated and the time-frame of the suspension be made known,” said the supporters committee chairman.

For these reasons, Dlamini said he thought it was best to reserve his comments for now so as to avoid making speculations.
Amid the suspension of the NSC, a supporters meeting had been recently convened by the same committee at Lobamba National High School. Present during the meeting was one of the team’s directors, Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament (MP) Marwick Khumalo.

The supporters committee launched Eswatini MTN Mobile Money number which supporters can use to make contributions to assist run the team. Worth noting is that Highlanders are one of the big three teams that have recently clinched Eswatini Mobile’s annual sponsorship.
In fact, Eswatini Mobile is the main sponsor of the big three teams.

In the team’s weekly column, Masuku stated that their prime sponsor, Eswatini Mobile had made it easier for them to financially run the team.
This is through registering as official supporters of the team through Eswatini Mobile where part of the money is channelled to the club players’ welfare. The suspension comes in the wake of Highlanders’ resurgence in the MTN League as they have shot to the top four of the log standings.
