SUNDOWNS REJECT LOCAL COACHES

MBABANE – Local is not lekker for Manzini Sundowns in as far as coaches are concerned.

The Hub side has abandoned any plans of hiring a local coach but set sights on a foreign coach.
Some of the local coaches who had been linked with Sundowns to replace Zimbabwean-born mentor Darlington Dodo are namely, Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini and Muzi ‘DU’ Makhanya.

Sundowns’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Muzi Matsenjwa said it was true that the club had engaged ‘Magiyane’ and ‘DU’ for the position of head coach.
However, Matsentjwa pointed out that the club figured that local coaches were not suitable to head their club.

“Consequently, we decided to stop engaging the local coaches for a possible replacement of Dodo,” he said.
The PRO mentioned that the team was currently in search of a coach outside the borders of the kingdom.

He said they were a number of factors they took into consideration in hiring a coach and as a result, they opted for an international mentor.
He said experience has taught the club that local coaches cannot fully concentrate on equipping the team as they do the job on a part-time basis.

“Our senior team has morning and afternoon training sessions. Most of the local coaches have full-time jobs and can only attend the afternoon sessions. We want a professional coach who would be part and parcel of the team,” he said.

The PRO added that the coach must be present for all training sessions and further guide the club’s academy.
“Our assistant and goalkeeper coaches are employed at His Majesty’s Correctional Service (HMCS) we need the head coach to be there full-time,” said Matsenjwa.
