LOBAMBA – In spite of his team, Malanti Chiefs having recorded its first win of the new MTN League 2018/19 season, coach Raymond Dlamini was still bold enough to admit they have a long way to go before they reach their desired goal.

In a post-match inquest, Dlamini said they are a ‘work in progress’ and were ‘fortunate’ to convert the set-piece which earned them their first win after two defeats to Royal Leopard and Mbabane Highlanders respectively. Former Bidvest Wits University winger, Asive Langwe’s sweetly struck 53rd minute free kick earned Malanti Chiefs their first win in three games of the new league season. “It was a great game and we played our passing game against a team that also plays good football. We were just fortunate to convert the set piece which led to our goal,” Dlamini said.

His Sundowns counterpart, Mduduzi Shongwe said his boys lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
“We created some good chances and showed lots of character but we just need to work on being clinical in our finishing. We will improve in the coming games,” Shongwe, a former Sundowns defender, said.

Malanti Chiefs captain Thembumenzi Mayisela said they welcomed the three points and hoped to build on from the win.
“The Highlanders game we played on Thursday helped us a lot to identify where we were lacking and today we were able to put what we learnt to good use. We are improving as a team,” Mayisela said.
Sundowns skipper, Kingu Pemba said football was about taking chances and they did not take theirs yesterday.
“We missed chances and Malanti just scored from a set piece. We have a young team and we will improve as the league continues,” he said.
