NKONYENI – Despite that it was an inaugural event, runners did turn-up for the Zombie Trail Run.

There were 200 runners who participated in the first of its kind race which was characterised by zombie-like out-fits. The race was divided into three categories, the 21km, 10km and 5km.The main race attracted 21 runners while the 10km saw 45 athletes competing, with the 5km drawing 85 participants. The race started and finished at Nkonyeni Golf Estate.

Swazi Pharm Sales and Marketing Manager, Cindy Stankoczi said they were impressed by the attendance.
“It was our very first time hosting a run and I must say we were very happy with the attendance and overall outcome of the event. People went and got tested for diabetes and awareness was built for this silent disease. The theme ‘Zombie’ was well understood as people came dressed and had their faces painted like zombies. The zombie we are fighting is diabetes, through running and spreading the awareness during the race,” Stankoczi said.

“Overall, the event was a huge success and people came in their numbers to partake. Many participants took the time to get their faces painted to represent the deadly diseases diabetes,” she added.

She also disclosed that all winners’ prizes were sponsored by Swazi Pharm to the value of E40 000.
“We want to thank other companies who partnered with us. We received monetary donation and sponsorship from companies from Eswatini- AVOMA who donated E5 000, Eliang also gave us E3 000, Nkonyeni sponsored us with the venue.
