MBABANE – Local fans have a great season to look ahead to as the MTN Premier League kicks off tonight at Somhlolo National Stadium.

Some good fixtures are lined up throughout the weekend including the biggest fixture in the land, the capital city derby between giants Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows on Sunday afternoon at Lobamba.

Opening the league will be last season’s relegation survivors Vovovo against returning Manzini Sea Birds, who had been relegated to First Division two seasons ago.
On paper, these are two teams with equal strength especially in terms of status and fan base in the local football circles.

relegated

However, Vovovo are the ones who did not get relegated but survived and by virtue of that, they are the team to beat for Sea Birds. News coming from their camp is that there have been some changes in personnel including their coach Edwin Matsebula, who took over at Royal Leopard.

Nothing much is known about them heading into this tie but they are a capable side that has stunned big opposition before in the likes of Mbabane Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers.

teamwork

Sea Birds’ strength has always been teamwork. They fight hard for the other which has complimented their play and helped them regain quick promotion to the top flight.

They have retained some of the players they went down with, a bulk of them and added a few including former Mbabane Highlanders and national team Sihlangu defender Sibusiso Dlamini.

It could be an exciting game for the fans that will want to see what the season has in store for them and their favourite teams.
