MBABANE – It was one derby not to miss-thrilling. Despite that the crowd was still young; the Mbabane derby between Jazz and Raptors produced one of the moments to treasure for the over 50 basketball pundits who came to witness the opening fixture of the Trade Fair eliminations games at the Coronation Park yesterday.


In the first quarter, Raptors, who carried the underdog tag, looked ambitious and the score was a true reflection of this stanza. The first quarter ended with Raptors enjoying a 29-26 lead. All thanks to Jackson Biswalo and Anele Mavimbela who played their hearts out and scored vitals goals.


The second quarter was also tightly contested but the star-studded Jazz, which paraded the likes of former Mbabane Swallows striker, Phinda Dlamini, Hip Hop star Thamsanqa ‘KRTC’ Sibandze, MTN’s Jordy Shiba, Mandisa Zwane and Lwazi Mchobokazi came back strong. They eventually won this stanza by 29-22.


In the deciding quarter, both teams were adventurous in their attack Jazz’s Lwazi and ‘States’ Vilakati played like it was their last game in the round robin elimination tournament. They were marvel to watch as they scored three vital pointers. In the end, Jazz had the last laugh as they recorded a 55-51 sweet victory over their rivals.
