ESWATINI TAEKWONDO TEAM RULE SADC IN SA

MBABANE – The country’s taekwondo team reigned supreme in the Tuks Taekwondo Championships attended by five countries in Pretoria, South Africa.


The 23-member squad brought home nine gold medals, three silver and one bronze medal. The team retuned home yesterday afternoon glowing with pride and decorated with their medals.
The squad was led by the Swaziland Taekwondo Association (STAss) Zakhele Dlamini.


The gold medalists were namely, Sizwe Mabuza, Kuye Dlamini, Ntsika Nxumalo, Sikhulile Mhlalela, Nhlakanipho Gwebu, Carlota Munave, Saneliso Masuku, Thandolwethu Ndzinisa and Peter Mkhwanazi.
The trio of Thabiso Mdluli, Wandile Maziya and Qiniso Maziya won silver medals while Sandile Mchunu came third with a bronze medal.


STAss vice president and Sizwe Mabuza who also won a gold medal in the Poomsae team, seniors (Masters/3rd Dan Black -4th Dan Black), said this was a great achievement for all their artists. He said the country was the biggest winner on the day.
The other artists came from countries including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Mozambique.


“We travelled to the championships as team Eswatini came from different teams including Swazi Tigers Academy, Next Generation Academy, Manzini Nazarene, University of Eswatini (UNESWA) RSSC, Excelsior and St Michael’s,” he said.
