MBABANE – The deadline for applications is tomorrow. That is for the vacant post of chief executive officer (CEO) at the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), which was run for a few days last week in this newspaper. It will only be filled by one successful candidate.

Sources have alleged top referee Simanga Nhleko has shown interest and so is a former Mbabane Swallows towering defender (name deliberately withheld).
“Nhleko has expressed his desire and indicated by sending his application. He had once been approached by a former chairman when the position was available in the past but took up a government job with the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs,” a source close to him said.

The source said so far, the only person known to be interested and declared to have applied, was Nhleko. PLE COO Pat Vilakati could not assist much as he said their consultancy, JBH Management, was handling the applications.

“We will only hear from them once the job is done. We expect to get a shortlist of the top three names by next week,” he said. Nhleko, when reached, downplayed the matter, and expressed concern about the source, instead. Nonetheless, he said he was aware of the advert.

“I saw it but I haven’t done anything yet,” he responded to the question of whether he had applied or not.
When pressed on the matter, he insisted not to have applied yet without denying interest. Interestingly, he knew about an Eswatini TV journalist (name deliberately withheld) that our sources also linked to the post.

“I heard about the journalist’s interest,” Nhleko affirmed.
However, when the journalist was reached, the response was that he was currently comfortable where he is.
Worth noting is that Nhleko who is learned, has been linked to a PLE post before.
