MBABANE – This will be the inaugural holiday action for the schools.

Never before have schools held any of their sports during holidays but due to the regional change of the playing dates of the Copa Coca-Cola which aligned it to kick off at the same time throughout the region, Eswatini was forced to have the games when schools are currently closed for the second term. “It was beyond our control and we appeal to the parents and the public to understand it’s the sponsorship and it has affected every country where this tournament is played. We’re starting with our Last 16 on Wednesday throughout the four regions in the country,” Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA) Secretary Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini explained. He stated that these were semi-finals scheduled for Wednesday in the different venues and each region would at the end of the day produce a champion who will represent it in the main semis to produce finalists. “By 2pm, each region will be playing finals and then on August 17, next Friday it’ll be the semis at Somhlolo National Stadium.

On the same Friday morning, the sponsor will launch and do a kit presentation to the four semi-finalists from the regions,” he explained while also inviting coaches from Super League, First Division and Premier League to come and spot the rough diamonds as they did the likes of Mbabane Highlanders’ Captain Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze and Manzini Wanderers’ Ali Matse from these games before. He further appealed for no violence and intolerance to drinking during the games. He said the strict tournament rules would be applied to schools that will be found guilty of the above. The semi-finals will be hosted at the Prince of Wales on the same day with the final expected the next day at a venue yet to be confirmed. Above are the fixtures for the regional semis next Wednesday.
