MBABANE – Tricky midfielder Ali Matse is not the only contract headache for Manzini Wanderers.

It has been established from close sources that some of those who featured in the Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup this past Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium did it for the love of the club.

“Some key and regular players for the club signed contracts out of love as there were no signing-on fees for them but did it to be registered with the FA.
‘‘Since there were not even negotiations with some and no instant signing-on fees, they further signed contracts to force the club to keep its promise to pay them or give out clearances,” one source said.

Another source who worships with the ‘Weslians’ said they were fortunate that the MTN Premier League was not starting immediately after the Charity Cup otherwise they would possibly face problems. One supporter, who asked to speak on condition of anonymity, appealed to the club’s hierarchy to quickly engage the players and ensure they were sorted.

Some of these players are known to this publication but their names will deliberately be withheld for now pending their agreements’ expiration day. Some of the players, when randomly called, confirmed there were contractual issues.
They also revealed that the challenges they faced were all financially based with some owed last season’s signing-on fees which were partly paid.
“It feels like our future is being destroyed. Some signed ultimatum contracts until August 10 because we need money to survive as well,” claimed one of the players before another later confirmed the same and that he agreed to waiting until month end.
Last Sunday, our sister publication, Times Sunday, reported that regular star last season Ali was out of the Charity Cup as he was not registered following a contractual dispute. He wants his contract improved. Both Matse and Wanderers confirmed the contractual disagreement issue between them.
Some of these players even said they were ready to leave the club to join clubs of their choices as per the signed agreements running until tomorrow. Already, speculation was that some big teams even in the capital city were monitoring the situation.
On the latest, the club’s CEO, Pat Mahlalela, who some players said was also a big reason they decided not stay away as they respected his efforts, was also contacted.
“The directors and management are meeting soon to discuss team matters,” he said.
Mahlalela said other than that, he had no comment.
