MBABANE – Experienced coach Nhlanhla ‘Friction’ Mayisela will lead a strong-looking squad to the Africa Netball Championships next month.

The event, which will double as World Cup qualifiers, takes centre stage in Zambia between August 14 and 19. On Saturday, Mayisela named a 15-member squad consisting of Correctional sharp shooter Jabu Khathwane as well as the equally gifted duo of Hlengiwe Bhembe and Sebe Nxumalo from Royal Eswatini Police, among others. A majority of the players were in the national side that reaped a silver medal during an invitational tournament in Singapore in December last year. They include Vumile Vilakati and Bathabile Nkambule.

Notable newcomers include Fisokuhle Dlamini from Manzini Ladies and Ngeti Sibandze of Mbabane Raiders. Meanwhile, the two top teams from the continental championships will get a ticket to the World Cup to be staged at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England next year. At least 16 teams will compete on the biggest stage in netball from July 12 to July 21 next year. England, as hosts, automatically qualifies alongside top-ranked nations in Australia, New Zealand, Jamacia, South Africa and Malawi.
