MBABANE – The preseason is on for the country’s big teams. Both in the Eswatini Telecom Charity Cup slated for next month after next week’s play-offs, Mbabane Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers will welcome South Africa’s National First Division League outfit Mbombela United next weekend.

Their other big rival Mbabane Swallows, is not just in preseason but serious competition as they have the CAF Champions League Group D games to complete, starting next Tuesday against Tunisia’s Étoile du Sahel at Mavuso Sports Centre and have been busy preparing.

The trio will compete in the Charity Cup spectacular won by Swallows last year.
“We have got a practice match against Mbombela United next Friday, July 20th at Mavuso Sports Centre, if we get the venue. They will not be coming here just for that game with us but will also go on to play Highlanders on the Saturday, July 21st,” Wanderers CEO Pat Mahlalela confirmed yesterday.

He said the preseason match would go a long way in helping the technical bench led by coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe to assess new players and also build a strong team for the Charity Cup and the season ahead.
“More details about the game will be released in due course as we’re still seeking the venue, then we’ll announce everything but the match is on,” he explained.

His Highlanders’ counterpart Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini also confirmed the match. He encouraged their supporters to be at the stadium yet to be announced, so they can see for themselves what they have read about in the media.

“We are working hard to bring back the glory days in the team and the technical bench under Professor is still on the recruitment exercise but they want quality only, to ensure we compete effectively and improve from last season,” he said.
He said they would avail details in due course.
