MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows’ star players were conspicuous by their absence during the MTN League prize presentation held at the Royal Villas in Ezulwini last night.

When the ‘Birds’ were called to the podium to receive the first prize for winning the MTN League, only defender Mandla Palma, Sanele Mkhweli and Stanley Umukoro appeared familiar to the audience. The rest of the team, including key players in captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze, Felix Badenhorst, Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza, Sandile Hlatjwako, Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko, Sifiso Mabila and others were absent.

Asked on the whereabouts of his star players, General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane was coy. He said Swallows were well- represented during the presentation and there was no need to explain where the others were.

“I don’t know what you are talking about because our players were at the podium. Which players were you looking for,” he asked.
The truth, however, is that Swallows appear to be engulfed in serious internal problems, as some of their players have been pictured with South African teams when in fact they have not been cleared to those teams. Officially, only Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze has been cleared to Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Polokwane FC.

“At this time of the season there will be a lot of rumours, but all I can say is that our players are not ‘AWOL’. We are preparing for the new season as a team and our fans can rest assured that nothing crazy will happen,” he said.
Mbabane Swallows’ coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati was also crowned Coach of the Season.
