MBABANE – Barely a day after being offered the jersey number 11 of his Polokwane City-bound brother Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze, Xolani is now ‘flying with the ‘Birds.’

Xolani, who is nicknamed ‘Papi’, is training with Mbabane Swallows. He was spotted during Swallows’ training session at Prince of Wales Ground yesterday.

‘Pupu’, in his farewell party held at the Portuguese Club on Saturday night, had hinted that he was handing over his jersey number 11 to his brother ‘Papi’. The Master of Ceremonies at the farewell party, Bongi Phiri also invited ‘Papi’ to say a few words after his brother’s revelation much to the applause of those in attendance.

‘Papi’, who is said to be contracted to newly-promoted Mbabane Citizens, is said to be coming on board for the CAF Champions League campaign.  He was among the players who were taken through their paces by team trainers Siyabonga Bhembe and Etienne Massoye under the watchful eye of team gaffer Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati.

Citizens PRO Sifiso Hlatjwako said nothing had been finalised yet with Swallows, but said they would not stand in the way of the player, as playing in Africa could give him exposure.

Swallows General Manager Sandile Zwane’s phone rang unanswered when sought for comment.
Meanwhile, Swallows players who were yet to join the team in training yesterday were the likes of Wonder Nhleko, Njabulo Ndlovu and Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze. They are expected back today after being rested.
