MANZINI – Manzini Wanderers supporters have defied all odds to endorse South Africa-based businessman Mehluli Nhlengetfwa as a director.

In a meeting attended by over 100 loyalists from the side at The George Hotel in Manzini yesterday, the supporters insisted on giving Nhlengetfwa total control of the team ahead of the current directors, comprising Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini and Peter Mathaba. The meeting was chaired by National Supporters Committee Chairman Majayivane Dlamini, who ordered the supporters to vote for their preferred team director by the show of hands. They unanimously chose Nhlengetfwa.

Despite the vote of confidence, the question on how Nhlengetfwa would be brought on board remained unanswered. This is because such a move means the current directors have to hand over the team to him. The latter, in a recent statement copied to this publication, had categorically stated that he had no intentions of coming on board as a sole director or fighting for a leadership position.

“I have been made aware that the intention was for me to come in as a sole director, and that is where the vision was distorted. In all my years of practice, I have always guarded against positions but rather build structures that will ensure that the vision at hand is achieved.
“I know the question centres around sole directorship or joining the current directors.

The answer is none of the above, as I have mentioned I am one who does not run for positions,” Nhlengetfwa had said in a detailed statement sent to this newspaper.
Following the confusion surrounding the resolution made yesterday, it was agreed that there should be a clear plan on how the dream of giving the team to Nhlengetfwa would be achieved.

“We have to come out with a plan. We’ll consult with the elders and then we will deliver a report during next month’s AGM on how the new director will come on board,” said Majayivane.

The general feeling among the supporters was that Nhlengetfwa was just what the doctor ordered in their bid to win a trophy for the first time in 13 years. They said he should be allowed to choose people to work with.

Former PRO Mduduzi ‘MR G’ Ginindza had said they did not care who was in charge, as long the team paraded the best players and won a trophy. He also stressed on ensuring that the players were well looked after. Meanwhile, Nhlengetfwa, in his statement, had also said the club belonged to all the stakeholders, including supporters, directors and elders, as well as the silent partners with its interest at heart.
