MBABANE – Ace golfer Nobuhle Dlamini has shot to the top 15 in a major tournament in Europe.

The Lobamba-born golfer carded rounds of 68, 71 and 73 to rank 13th out of 131 with a total score of four-under-par 212 at the AXA Czech Ladies Challenge at Golf Resort Konopiste in Bystrice on Saturday.

The tournament was played in Czech Republic, which is located in Central Europe. Winning the tournament was Spain’s Carmen Alonso 11-under-205.  The tournament is part of the LET Access Series (LETAS), which is a professional golf tour for women. It is also the official development tour to the Ladies European Tour. It provides players with an opportunity to compete and progress to the Ladies European Tour, which is one of the biggest events in the world.

For her achievement, Dlamini got 663 Euros (about E10 300). There are added incentives for leaving a mark, as the LETAS is one of the eight major women’s tours that carry World Golf Rankings points.

The top five players on the LETAS Order of Merit also earn membership for the one of the biggest events in world golf, which is the Ladies European Tour. Players finishing in positions six to 20 get to skip the first stage of the qualifying event and automatically progress to the final stage of the Lalla Aicha Tour School in Morocco. It is Dlamini’s best performance in the LETAS since her debut in the past month. She missed the cut in the other three attempts.

The 27-year-old told this publication it was a welcome change to play in the event, saying it was helping her to perfect her swings ahead of qualifiers for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), which is an organisation for female professional golfers in the US.
“It feels good to play at these events. I’m using the events to prepare for the LPGA tour school in August.

“I will play three more LETAS tournaments and then go back home. My next stop will then be US for the LPGA tour school,” she said.
The LET Access Series moves to Switzerland next week for the inaugural Lavaux Ladies Championship, played at Golf de Lavaux in Puidoux, from this coming Wednesday up until Friday.  Up to E750 800 will be up for grabs.
