MBABANE – Bodybuilding and running are all the same – they help people to lose weight and work well for heart rates.

That just explains why renowned Eswatini bodybuilder Arnaldo Barbosa participated in yesterday’s weekly parkrun at the Mbabane Club. He is preparing for a trip to Cape Town where he will compete in the Battle of the Titans VI in Durbanville, South Africa next week.

He was among 111 park-runners in the 59th edition of the 5km-timed run/walk that runs across the trails of the Mbabane Golf Course, go along the Mbabane River and the turning point is where the golf course ends, just a few metres away from the Mbabane Worship Centre.

“When I am a week before the final show, mostly I do some weights so today (yesterday) I decided to join the parkrun. For us as bodybuilders, cardio exercises help on our heart rates, sweating also help us to lose weight, so does the parkrun,” Barbosa said.

He further encouraged other people to join the parkrun.
“Besides that the parkrun was part of the diet and training ahead of the Cape Town event, I believe it is one activity that one can embrace because it has many positive spin-offs. For elite runners, it helps them to be consistent in as far as time is concerned, while for part-timers it motivates them to lead a healthy lifestyle,” he added.

The winner of the race was none other than Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force athlete, Nkululeko Gama, who won the race in 15:50 minutes, while in the ladies category Simphiwe Gama reigned supreme. She clocked at 22:25 minutes.
