EZULWINI – Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala has said the increased sponsorship from MTN Swaziland will increase the level of competiveness for local teams in African competitions.

Speaking during the launch of an increased E18 million sponsorship for the MTN Premier League at the Royal Swazi Sun in Ezulwini yesterday, Ngcamphalala said the country’s teams will be better placed to compete effectively in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup.

Emulate

He said it was his wish to see more teams emulate the success of Mbabane Swallows.
“If our local league is in good shape, it translates to competitiveness in inter-continental competitions. Swallows have showed that it is possible, and we have no doubt that with such sponsorships, more teams will improve and represent the country well,” he said.

Ngcamphalala added that MTN’s E18 million sponsorship was groundbreaking in the sense that never in the history of local sport has a company forked out so much money.

He said he was not in doubt that all the big teams will be looking forward to the start of the season.

“We hope our teams will be well prepared for battle as the season starts. We thank MTN for its loyalty to football and the increased package. Government wishes to emphasise its commitment to being a partner in all sports development.”
