MBABANE – The late football administrator and match commissioner Mangaliso Sihlongonyane will be laid to rest on Saturday morning at his home, Siphofaneni.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday at a venue yet to be confirmed.  Sihlongonyane, who also used the surname LaNgwenya, succumbed to an undisclosed illness on Saturday night at the Mbabane Government Hospital. His son, Phinda, confirmed yesterday that his father will be buried at his home in Siphofaneni.

“We are working with the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) in preparing for the funeral. We appreciate the support from all the stakeholders who are mourning with us at this moment,” he said.
Condolences started to pour in as early as Sunday and still more are coming in. Sihlongonyane was also the Referees’ Committee Secretary of the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA), and he was serving as Chairman of the Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA).

The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) COO Pat Vilakati said Sihlongonyane was a remarkable football match official and administrator, having served the country as referee and match commissioner for many years.
“His administrative skills and endless love for the game of football saw him being elected as the COSAFA Referees’ Committee Secretary, where he served diligently. We hope that in some way our words of support and sympathy may help to bring a little peace and solace at this time of sadness to his family and loved ones,” he said.

Other organisations that sent their condolence s include SOCGA, COSAFA and Sigcaweni League among others.
