MBABANE – Sihlangu and Mbabane Swallows attacking midfielder Felix Badenhorst has signed with SA’s National First Division side Mbombela United.

While the two teams still need to tie a few loose ends at the time of compiling this report, classified information leaked to this publication revealed that the former Swazi international put pen to paper on Saturday in Nelspruit. “After getting offers from several teams, he felt it was high time he decided his future. Unlike some of the teams Mbombela were open in their bid, so the player did not hesitate to come on board. “He was also monitored in the COSAFA Cup in Polokwane recently,” said a source close to the player. While finer details of the deal were scanty by yesterday, it was reliably gathered that the South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province-based outfit were eager to conclude the deal before the end of the month, so that he could start pre-season with them.

Well-informed insiders at Mbombela confirmed the deal on condition of anonymity pending finalisation of talks between the two parties. Team Director Oupa Matsebula also proved hard to pin down and did not respond to a text message dropped on his mobile phone. Meanwhile, Mbombela escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth in the 2017/18 campaign. They finished on the 14th spot and were two places above the drop zone. Reports suggest they are bolstering their squad in a bid to win promotion to the money-spinning South Africa’s Absa Premiership in the new campaign. They were promoted to the National First Division in 2015. Efforts to get the player’s comments were fruitless, as he did not want to comment on the latest developments.

Swallows General Manager Sandile Zwane insisted that there was continued interest from their players from various teams, but would arrange a press conference with the media at later stage to announce transfers, if there would be any.
“Our focus is on the CAF Champions League. We’re aware of continued interest in our players. When the dust has settled, we’ll issue a statement,” said Zwane. Following the latest developments, Badenhorst will be the second Swallows player to complete a switch to a South African side in this period. Impressive winger Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze is headed to Limpopo-based top-tier outfit Polokwane City. Badenhorst is a former Swazi international. His last international outing was in the 2016/17 campaign, when he was with Congolese giants AS Vita. Former Mbabane Highlanders striker Mfanufikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze, on the other hand, was also attached to the second-tier side in the second round of the recently-ended season, but his contract was not renewed.
