MTN KHEMANI’S MUZI SHABANGU LEADS MTB SERIES

LOBAMBA – MTN Khemani cyclist Muzi Shabangu has taken the lead in mountain biking after his sterling performance in the Nedbank Imvelo MTB Classic on Saturday.


Shabangu was the first Liswati to cross the finish line on 03:13:47 hours after South Africa’s Christo Carelsen, who made it first on 03:13:21 hours. Shabangu leads with 200 points and second is Thulani Gule who finished fourth and he has 150 points. Veteran cyclist William Kelly, who may not be awarded an award even if he makes it to the podium finish after the series due to his coache’s status, is third with 100 points. He completed the 65km gruelling race at Mlilwane placed seventh and he was the third Liswati.


Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS) President Sihlangu Nhlabatsi said there are four races remaining in the MTB Series and all cyclists still stood a chance to win.
This was the first edition of the five races to be held. Nhlabatsi said a cyclist needs to compete in at least three races to qualify for the biggest award at the end of the season. The four remaining races are the Ngwenya Glass, G2G, 3 Reserves and Mormond Stix race.
