MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders and their coach Professor Ngubane have agreed to renew their marriage - this time on a two-year performance-based contract.

Ngubane, who is in his native South Africa enjoying his holidays after a gruelling season, is expected to return on June 17 to put pen to paper. The contract comes with clauses, mainly on performance where the former Umtata Bush Bucks mentor is expected to deliver two trophies for the ‘Black Bull’, as Highlanders are affectionately called, and has been handed E200 000 kitty to spend on new players. “The two parties have agreed on the terms. It is an 80 to 90 per cent done deal as all that is left is for the coach to sign on the dotted line. Also, the parties have agreed that Ngubane be given E200 000 kitty to spend on players. The idea is to get players in crucial positions, where the team has been found wanting and not to overspend like the previous campaign in the case of ‘Mlaba’ (Nkambule) and ‘Fash’ (Ndzimandze) for example,” a Highlanders source close to the deal said.

Highlanders splashed the cash at the beginning of the ended season, paying E250 000 for ‘Mlaba’ and ‘Fash’s’ services from Manzini Sundowns and Moneni Pirates, respectively. Before leaving for holidays, Ngubane submitted a five-man wish-list to the Highlanders Board of Directors, headed by Zweli Jele. The Times Sports Desk has been able to get the names of the players but cannot be revealed until formal transfer talks begin with their respective clubs. Information gathered is to the effect that Ngubane has turned down two offers from South Africa’s Amazulu and Royal Eagles to concentrate on the Highlanders project, hence he was handed two years. When reached, Jele said Ngubane remained Highlanders’ coach and that there was nothing new about that.
