LOBAMBA –Sihlangu stars are confident of making history by winning the COSAFA Cup for the first time in the kingdom’s football history.

Sihlangu are in full-time camp at the FA Technical Centre in Lobamba in readiness for the regional showpiece currently underway in Polokwane, South Africa.

The nation’s pride starts the tournament in the quarter-finals on Saturday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium against Lesotho in a 5.30pm kick-off. Captain Tony Tsabedze talked of the importance of doing well in the tournament and that confidence was sky high in camp.
“We want to see ourselves in the finals and we are certain, especially after the good result away in Kenya last Friday,” the nimble footed left winger said.

Sihlangu dimmed Kenya’s Harambee Stars courtesy of a Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko solitary goal.
Goalkeeper Nhlanhla Gwebu said their main focus now was Lesotho and that the Kenya game gave them direction and the needed motivation. The Young Buffaloes shot stopper lauded the smooth competition between the three goalkeepers in camp.

“We are all good and whoever goes or gets the nod for matches, he will do well for the country. Everyone is ready but the Lesotho game remains the barrier- if we win it, then we can go all the way,” Gwebu, who is competing for the only two goalkeeping slots available for the tournament with Sandanezwe Mathabela of Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard’s Phephisani Msibi, said.

Felix Badenhorst, the 2016 edition top scorer, reckoned this year’s competition would be different but their target was to reach the finals and possibly win the tournament.
