MBABANE – In news that will sure come as sweet melody to Mbabane Highlanders’ fans, Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane has agreed in principle to lead the team for another season.

In an interview from South Africa yesterday, Ngubane confirmed that he has been offered a one year extension to his contract. In return, the ‘Bull’, as Highlanders are affectionately known, has promised to reward the coach with a long term contract if he either wins the MTN Premier League or the SwaziBank Cup next season.

Highlanders’ hierarchy is reportedly eager for the team to return to the CAF Confederations Cup or the Champions League at the end of next season.

“We entered a verbal agreement before I left and I expect my manager to finalise the paperwork soon. I am already planning for next season because our ambition is to make sure that our fans have something to celebrate at the end of next season. I have full confidence in my players and have no doubt that we will achieve the set targets,” he said.

Ngubane emphasized that it had always been his wish to remain at Highlanders. He said he wants to win trophies with the team and already had plans in place for next season.

Ngubane added that he would be looking to bolster Highlanders in almost all departments with big name signings. He said he cannot fault his current team for the performance of last season, but they would definitely add quality to make the team competitive.
“We need a bigger squad to compete. I am looking at having at least 24 players minimum. Our fans must expect surprises because we will be looking to sign quality players. That’s the only way we can keep the others on their toes,” he said.

Highlanders’ Chief Executive Officer Celcolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini could only confirm that they recommended to the board that Ngubane’s contract should be renewed because he had improved the team in many aspects.
