MBABANE – The country’s cyclists could soon match international cyclists.

This follows an offer by some of South Africa’s professionals to train the country’s cyclists for free.  Minister of Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala confirmed the latest developments, after the success of the Dups-United Mafutseni Classic outside Manzini on Sunday.

“The full logistics of the arrangements are yet to be finalised, but we’re grateful, as this will improve the standard of competition in the country.
“Eswatini cyclists are trying their best to match the internationals,” said the minister.

There were three professional cycling teams from South Africa that were in the country for the Dups-United Mafutseni Classic and they were led by Pretoria-based Sampada. The latter are renowned for world tours in Asia and Europe. The other teams were styled Infinita and Proud Beginners. The former produced a champion in the 120km race in Terry Ryan.

Deputy Prime Minister, Paul Dlamini, who is now a regular cyclist, also celebrated the resurgence in the sport.
“The attendance was impressive. The internationals got competition,” said the deputy premier.
National champion, Morgan Rudd from 4EVA, who ranked 13th on the day, felt the presence of the visitors was good, saying it would improve their performance.
