MBABANE – Junior golfer James Pennington has to wait longer before leaving a mark in the paying ranks.

The South Africa-based golfer is now ‘dining with the big boys’ after turning professional in the past year.  He was unlucky in his bid to shine on home turf after missing the cut in round two of the Lombard Insurance Classic on Saturday.  His scores of 79 and 72 were not enough to keep him in chase of a maiden championship. The tournament, with a E1m purse, was taking place at the Par 72 Royal Swazi Spa Golf Course in Ezulwini. It started on Friday and ended yesterday. It was played under the Sunshine Tour banner.

Following Pennington’s setback, the country no longer has representation in the prestigious tournament. Visiting South Africa’s Justin Harding, on the other hand,  had fired an eight-under-par 64 yesterday to take a one-stroke lead ahead of the final round yesterday. Harding made six birdies and an eagle to edge clear of first-round leader Combrinck Smit and put himself in a position to win his second tournament in two weeks on the same course after he won last week’s Investec Royal Swazi Open.
