NGWENYA – After 21 years, they are back into CAF Champions League action and they want nothing but a win against Mbabane Swallows.

This summed up comments by Club Desportivo 1 de Agosto assistant coach Iva Traca after their arrival in the Kingdom of Eswatini at the Ngwenya Border Gate last night.

They touched down at the border gate at 5:32pm and they were welcomed by Mbabane Swallows and Football Association officials. Representing the former was Dumezweni Dlamini while the FA was represented by Bongani Vilakati. They were escorted  by members of the Royal Swaziland Police Service to Lugogo Sun where they are booked until match day.

The Angolan side bring a squad of 19 players for their first leg away match slated for Mavuso Sports Centre at 3pm. Some of the players who are here for the Group D showdown  are midfielders Kehinde Yisa Anifowoshe, Ibukun Akinfenwa from Nigeria.
The rest of the internationals are forward Bakulu Bitumba Jacques, as well as defenders Beadrik Muselenge and Lompala Bokampa, who are all from DR Congo.

The Portuguese-speaking assistant coach made it succinctly clear when interviewed by the Sports Desk that they were here for a win. The team’s Media Manager, Meike Neves, was the interpreter.

“Look, we have watched Swallows play against Zesco United and other teams in the continental tournament. There is no doubt that they are a good team but we have done our homework. We are here for a win. We cannot settle for a draw,” Traca said.

When asked about their targets in this tournament, the coach said they would take it one game at a time.
“This is the second time we are playing in the CAF Champions’ League. The last time we played was 21 years ago and we were booted out of the group stages. This time around we are going to make sure we will advance to the next stage,” he said.

Noteworthy is that Supersport Broadcasting Van also arrived yesterday.
The DSTV pay channel will broadcast the game live on Supersport 9. It will be E50 to watch the game. Interestingly, both Swallows and the Angolan side have played to a 1-all draw against their respective opponents in the first game of Group D. Swallows managed a 1-all against Zambia’s Zesco United while Agosto also played to a 1-1 draw against Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia. Only two teams in each group will qualify to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
