MANZINI – Young Buffaloes stamped their authority over Mbabane Highlanders as they recorded a 3-1 win here yesterday.

In the reverse fixture, the ‘Bull’ suffered a 4-0 embarrassing loss to the army side and this last but one fixture was no different story as the Dominic Kunene side completed a double to cement the second spot in the 14-team league.

For the hosts, the loss was like a bitter pill to swallow after missing clear-cut chances, especially in the last five minutes. The loss was a setback as they fell one place off the ladder following Royal Leopard’s 3-0 win over relegated Red Lions. They are now positioned on the sixth spot while Leopard jumped to the fifth spot from seventh.

It took Buffaloes 40 minutes to break the deadlock in the tightly contested game. It was Wandile ‘Skosh’ Shanangu’s cliffhanger from 40 yards that beat Sibonakaliso Vilakati across the sticks.

Just when the Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane-led side were trying to find an equaliser, Ndumiso Dlamini doubled matters two minutes later. It was a glancing header from Dlamini that left Vilakati sprawled on the turf.

Just before halftime, a Mbabane Highlanders fan was beaten to a pulp just behind the goalposts opposite William Pitcher by an unidentified intruder from the south stand. The situation was saved by police officers.

After resumption, the army side made it 3-0. It was former Siboniso Ngwenya who dribbled past Peter Dlamini to beat Vilakati across the sticks with a low shot.

The ‘Black Bull’ responded a minute later through South Africa’s Thabiso Makeokoane who headed home to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Thabiso could have made it 3-2 but he missed a glorious chance from three yards with just three minutes to go. He ballooned the ball over the woodwork.
