MBABANE – To be in the ‘World of Champions’ in South Africa’s SuperSport television, the PLS is about to spend E650 000 for its games’ live broadcast.

The South African television sports broadcaster recently aired the Ingwenyama Cup final between champions Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard. The deal seemed to go well for the country as scouts in South Africa were able to recognise Swallows’ midfielder Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze as a good player.

They are expected to sign him next season as they are currently negotiating for a reduced transfer fee from E750 000 to E300 000.
“Look, the Ingwenyama Cup final pitting Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard cost us E350 000 and for the SwaziBank Cup final, the deal will cost us around E300 000.It does not come cheap, we have to pay for such quality,” PLS’ Chairman Mark Carmichael yesterday.
He said they were still in talks with SuperSport but that was so far the standing.

“The SwaziBank Cup final is going to be broadcast live on SuperSport 4.We can say tentatively SuperSport 4 because we are still finalising details of the deal,” Carmichael disclosed.

He explained that it was not cheap to get to broadcast these games on SuperSport. Manzini Wanderers and Young Buffaloes will this time get the exposure as they will battle it out in the SwaziBank Cup final next Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.

“This is a chance for companies to market their products or services. So we are pleading with them to at least support us financially. They can come and put their billboards there and surcease their services will be marketed not in Swaziland but across the African continent,” he added.

He said they needed local companies to assist them raise this money by coming forward to discuss with them how they could all benefit for this deal. Meanwhile, he encouraged local players to also grab the opportunity by understanding they were watched by the whole continent as the chances of being scouted through television was always high.
