MBABANE – Love recognises no barriers as it jumps hurdles and leaps fences.

This adage held true for retired volleyball player Gideon Tsabedze, as he popped the question on the netball court. Tsabedze asked Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF) Goal Shooter Andzile Dlamini, to marry him just moments after the security forces side beat OlympAfrica 46-28 in a Swaziland Building Society (SBS) National Netball League clash last Saturday.

The game was played at Zakhele Netball Court in Manzini.
After dating for seven years, Tsabedze, who asked not to disclose his age, decided to make it official in the past weekend. Armed with an engagement ring, he stormed the netball court immediately after the game, much to the surprise of Dlamini. He popped the question and then got down on one knee to insert the ring on her finger after the latter accepted the proposal.

Stunned onlookers took pictures of the historic moment, while an unnamed ‘pastor’ reportedly prayed for the couple afterwards.
Confirming the latest developments, Tsabedze, who is an official at Bob Cats Volleyball Club, said he chose to make it public, as his lover’s friends were mainly netball players. He conceded that part of him feared rejection, but was bold enough to continue as he trusted her.

Tsabedze, who celebrated his birthday on the day, did not waste time in settling down with his fiancée, as they headed to his home in Mpaka, where she was takaed (traditional wedding) in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
“She is officially my wife, but I won’t stop her from playing netball.

“It will depend on the schedule, but she will only play official fixtures,” he said.
Andzile, on the other hand, welcomed the surprise, and also assured she would continue playing the game. It is her third season at USDF, but she is not yet a soldier.

“He had watched previous games, but on the day he never gave a hint he might propose.
“I was taken aback, that is why I ended up breaking down. Obviously, I had to say yes,” she said.
