EZULWINI – A lifetime opportunity has availed itself for five lucky and talented youth basketball players who will enrol at MingDao University in Taiwan.

This is all courtesy of the Prince Majaha Foundation, which has partnered with the Taiwanese University in a programme that the country is first to benefit from. The partnership is worth E1.5 million in scholarship for five exceptional basketball male players to study and play in Taiwan for four years.

“The programme was initially going to start in South Africa but because of the relationship we have with the Prince Majaha Foundation, we decided to bring it here first. It’s E1.5 million we’re putting on the table to enhance the youth’s education and basketball skills. We’re also so excited that Swaziland is the first beneficiary,” the university’s King Liu said during the launch attended by the Swaziland National Basketball Association (SNBA) President Nhlanhla ‘Kid’ Maphanga and Secretary Mandla Shongwe.

The foundation, which was only introduced last year, where it hosted a fundraising soccer tournament for social teams including South Africa’s Bafana legends including Phil Masinga among others, was represented by its coordinator, Njobo Nkosi.
King Liu explained that they were looking for players ready to hit tertiary education and willing to go to Taiwan for a Business Administration Course that will last four years. They will at the same time improve their basketball court skills through the university’s team, which campaigns in the Taiwan First Division League.

The initiative was officially launched yesterday at the Corner Plaza, in the presence of the Prince Majaha Foundation’s Njobo Nkosi and Swaziland National Basketball Association (SNBA) Nhlanhla Maphanga and Secretary General Mandla Shongwe.
