MBABANE – So near, yet so far for the country’s number one sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa in the XXI Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The country’s sprinter finished fourth in the 200m semi-finals, ending his mile in the Games. Had he been a little faster, the final was his. Matsenjwa was competing yesterday morning against among others South Africa’s respected Anaso Jobodwane, who finished third before he was disqualified for a false start.

Matsenjwa initially finished the semi-final fifth out of seven athletes running in lane two. He clocked 21:16 seconds, way far from his personal best and national record of 20:48 seconds and even slower than his heat time of 20:81 seconds. Winning the heat was England’s Zharnel Hughes on 20:37 seconds while on second was Alex Hartmann from Australia on 20:76 seconds. The duo made it to the finals. Because of Jobodwane’s disqualification, Matsenjwa was given a fourth finish.

“I really do not know what happened with my performance because during the warm-up session I was feeling okay and every thing was under control. But during the competition, my performance was not at its best and I was not the only one who ran the lowest time,” he said.

Matsenjwa said he felt a little tired having ran the 100m heats and semi-finals on Sunday. He also ran the 200m heats on Monday with the semi-finals yesterday. He also crashed out in the semi-finals of the 100m.
Matsenjwa could have made it to the finals if he clocked the national record of 20:48 seconds.
