MBABANE – Can Swallows finish the MTN League unbeaten in two consecutive seasons?

This is the question which begs for answers with four games before the curtain falls on the league.
The defending champions have managed to play 44 league games without losing a match since the 1-3 defeat to Royal in the last match of the 2015/16 campaign.
There are four teams which stand in their way.

These are Green Mamba, whom they play tomorrow, then elite returnees Malanti Chiefs, Premier League rookies Vovovo and lastly unpredictable Tambuti.
Mbabane Swallows mentor Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati said despite that all the games would be tough; they have a mandate as a team, which is to finish the league unbeaten.

“It’s not about ‘Koki’ but about Swallows. The management, players and supporters want to see us succeed. We have a mandate as a team and that is to win the league still unbeaten. It will not be easy though because all our opponents have all the reasons to win against us, some are fighting for relegation, while others want to finish in the top four or top eight while others will have their contracts renewed if they beat us,” Vilakati said.
The league and three times Ingwenyama Cup winning coach said if their opponents had to beat them, they would still be united.

“As much as I have pointed that it won’t be easy beating them, it will also be difficult for them to beat us since we have a record to protect. If we have managed to protect this record up to this far, what can stop us from keeping it that way,” he said.

The capital city giants will play Green Mamba tomorrow, a team that booted them out of the Swazi Bank Cup.
Correctional side coach and Sihlangu interim assistant coach Caleb Ngwenya said  it would be suicidal for his players to be complacent following beating Swallows two weeks ago.
“This is a new game altogether. The results of this game will be determined by how the players execute my instructions. They will have to focus until the last minute to get good results in this game. It will be our downfall if we judge another game by our previous results,” Ngwenya said.

Next on Swallows’ challenge will be Malanti Chiefs. Former Kaizer Chiefs player Humphrey Mlwane, who is in charge of Malanti Chiefs, made it succinctly clear that they cannot allow making history elude them.
“I watched Swallows in the Ingwenyama Cup finals. They are a strong team but they are not invincible. We want to be the team that will break the record. It is possible as long as they follow my instructions,” Mlwane said.
‘Birds’ last opponents will be Tambuti and their gaffer, Texan Phiri, said they are determined to win all the remaining games.

“Our results against Mbabane Swallows will determine our previous results. If we win the three remaining games, it will build confidence on the players and chances of getting good results are high,” Phiri said.
The defending champions are currently leading the pack with 52 points while Young Buffaloes are second with 48 points with Green Mamba on third with 40 points.
