WANDERERS CHALLENGE PLS ON LIHLE SUSPENSION

MBABANE – The odds just got heavily stacked against hub giants Manzini Wanderers in as far as their Easter Monday MTN League fixture against Royal Leopard is concerned.

Two of their key central defenders Sihle Mkhonta (currently away with the national team Sihlangu in Seychelles) and Lihle Shabangu will not play any part against the wounded and unfortunate Leopard.

Leopard were over the weekend scarred by their rivals Mbabane Swallows who beat them 2-1 in the Ingwenyama Cup final. However, the hub giants are not taking the suspension of Shabangu lightly, arguing that the player served his suspension during the SwaziBank Cup last 16 1-0 win over Vovovo three weeks ago.

“We have got the correspondence from the PLS and obviously no team wants to play with a weakened side but Wanderers have a big squad. Our players have been at training and itching for action with the spirit also high. We just have one concern and have written to the PLS as Lihle served his one match suspension,” the team’s CEO Pat Mahlalela said.

He said they were hoping for the best from the PLS on Shabangu even though he said there had been no response on their letter from the PLS by yesterday.
“We sincerely believe the PLS had to write back to us as we did to them over Lihle’s suspension but we’re now on holidays and there’s nothing from them. I’ve tried to get in touch with the COO but to no avail and to us this is inefficiency as we deserved a response since we wrote on time,” he said.

Mahlalela said this was also disturbing their preparations for the tough encounter with Leopard as their coaches did not know whether to include Shabangu in their line-up or not.
“As things stand, it looks like we’re going to have to make do without both defenders who will only return in the SwaziBank Cup next week,” he said.
