LOBMBA – Record-breaking Mbabane Swallows had more reasons to be merry after winning their third straight Ingwenyama Cup title on Sunday.


The capital city giants beat Royal Leopard by 2-1 to win the whopping  E1.2 million first prize money before His Majesty King Majesty King Mswati III and over 10 000 ‘roaring’ spectators at Somhlolo National Stadium. They got an extra E142 000 from a share of the gate takings to shoot up their earnings to E1 342 000. Management Commitment Chairman Johannes Siboza, interviewed after match, said at least E421 640 was collected at the gates and each team netted E142 000 after deductions. In essence, 10 541 spectators paid to watch the game.


“We thank the nation for the support. When spectators come in numbers it becomes easy to negotiate for a new sponsorship,” said Siboza.


Meanwhile, Swallows’ total earnings in the current campaign are now at E9.1 million, as they are guaranteed at least E6.6 million for reaching the group stages of the CAF Champions League. They won E950 000for winning the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup in August last year. With four games to spare, they are four points clear at the top of MTN Premier League charts.  They won the E350 000 MTN League First Round incentive. If they win the league they are guaranteed an extra E750 000.
