LUSAKA – If Mbabane Swallows needed a huge psychological boost in their quest to conquer Africa, it came in the form of the assurance by the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS).
The PLS gave the ‘Birds’ E50 000 financial boost for the opening round match against Lesotho’s Bantu FC last month, to cater for expenses in Maseru.

PLS Executive Committee member Sicelo Mkhonta, who was here to offer Swallows morale support on behalf of the organisation here in Lusaka, said the red and white glamour side impressive showing calls for support from all football stakeholders.
“We are very delighted with the Swallows win and how they continue to do the country proud, having reached group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup last year. As an organisation, we can assure them continued support in their CAF journey,” Mkhonta said.

He said Swallows’ 2-1 victory over Zambia’s Zanaco FC, which sent shockwaves around the African continent on Wednesday, was rubbing off well to the status of the Premier league in the country.
“It is increasing our profile as a league and as an organisation. I want to implore all football stakeholders to put club affiliation aside and support Swallows because they are doing the country proud,” Mkhonta added.

Head of delegation, Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, who is also a member of the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Executive Committee, congratulated Swallows for the historic win.
“The pitch was unplayable but Swallows technical team came up with a game plan and executed it well. The boys truly played well,” Dlamini said.
