LUSAKA – If Mbabane Swallows can get past Zambia’s Zanaco FC and reach the group stages, they stand to earn the minimum prize of E6.6 million.

It is all about winning today in the Total CAF Champions League first leg away clash in Nkoloma Stadium at 3pm for the local lads or not losing and return home to finish off the job – which is possible.
However, with reports and pictures of a rainy weather that has seen the Nkoloma Stadium get so muddy and unplayable in its poor turf, it will be a tough battle for Swallows even though they have played in harsh conditions before. The winner of this two-legged tie will pocket the CAF prize which is set for the 3rd and 4th place finishers in the group stages.

Swallows clash with the Zambians at 3pm today. According to CAF, this is the minimum to be received by the teams that will finish in the group stages placed third and fourth while reaching the quarter-finals a team is guaranteed of about E8 million. The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) stands to also financially benefit when Swallows reach the group stages as they have a share of five per cent. ‘The Birds’ pocketed E3.6 million last season when they reached the CAF Confederations Cup group stages for the first time in the history of football in the country.

A local team is yet to beat a Zambian team in the CAF Inter-club tournament.
Meanwhile, Zanaco coach Mumamba Numba believes Swallows will be tough opposition when the two teams cross swords this afternoon.
The ‘Bankers’ of Zambia, as Zanaco FC are affectionately called here in the Zambian capital, face off with the ‘Invincible’ of Swazi football, Swallows in a 22nd Total CAF Champions League clash first round at the 5 000 capacity Nkoloma Stadium today. Kickoff time is 3pm.
