MBABANE – Female ace golfer Nobuhle Dlamini has snatched her maiden title in the paying ranks.

The 27-year-old Swazi golfer closed with a final round two-over 72 in the Sunshine Ladies Tour (SLT) event styled SuperSport Ladies Challenge to prevail at the E400 000-sponsored event in South Africa’s Wild Coast Sun Country Club yesterday. She finished on an impressive five-under-par 205 after posting flawless rounds of 64 and 69 in the first two rounds between Wednesday and Thursday.

The Lobamba-born golfer, who was in chase of her maiden championship since turning professional in 2014, won the sixth event in the 2018 SLT series while being challenged by a number of top players from countries that included England, Sweden and Germany. She shook off her closest competitor, Lora Assad from South Africa, by a stroke. The latter proved a threat following a four-under with her final round 69.
“Personally, this has built me a lot. I’ve learnt about being confident, trusting what you’re doing.

“I held it together and I’m absolutely ecstatic. It really means a lot to me and to everyone who has supported me. It’s been a long journey with lots of hard work.
‘‘Trying to win my confidence grew, so I’m really happy that I hung in there to win,” Dlamini told SuperSport after claiming the artistic trophy and the E56 000 first prize money.
Following yesterday’s win, the former South Africa’s number one female amateur has netted E84 910 in about two weeks. She had pocketed E28 910 in last week’s Women Masters, which was the fifth tournament in the SLT series.
“I won a lot as an amateur, but it had been too long since my last win. So I needed to win to know I could still do it.

“It’s the beginning of a good journey for me. I hope it will open many doors in terms of sponsorships and getting into other bigger tournaments,” Dlamini was further quoted saying.
Dlamini’s earnings in the SLT have now shot up to E106 382.50 in six tournaments.

Dlamini’s desire to win kept her going and she never gave up in times of setbacks.
“I kept saying I was going to win and I felt that I could win, but I just couldn’t finish it off,” Dlamini admitted.

confidence

The victory further shot Dlamini to the second spot on the Order of Merit charts. Her confidence level is expected to be sky high at the SLT flagship event, which is the Investec SA Open on Thursday.
The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour and will have a whopping E2 million purse.
