MBABANE – 64kg pugilist Ronnie Zikalala was withdrawn from the team that travelled to the AFBC Zone IV Elite Senior Championships.

Six boxers left the country on Tuesday for Maputo, Mozambique to exchange leather with their counterparts from across the zone at the championships that end on Sunday February 25.

Lwando Shongwe (49kg), Phumlani Shabalala (52kg), Zweli Dlamini (56kg), Andiswa Sibandze (60kg), Thabiso Dlamini (69kg) and Sifiso ‘Omo’ Ngwenya (75kg) are all tasked with hoisting the country’s flag sky high and return with gold medals. Swaziland Boxing Association (SWABA) Secretary General Thabsile Mngometulu is the Head of Delegation. SWABA prepared a budget of E83 000 for the trip.

The travelling boxers emerged winners in their respective categories during the Boxing National Championships last month.

“Ronnie couldn’t get his travel document sorted in time for the trip hence he has been left behind,” Mngometulu said when the team left at the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) offices on Tuesday.
Also on the bus to Maputo were national coaches Kidzo Shongwe and Samuel Tsambokhulu.
