MBABANE – In a case that would fit in the World’s Dumbest Criminals, sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa had over E50 000 worth of property stolen after his house was broken into.

As he was setting a new 400m national record in South Africa last weekend, Matsenjwa’s house at Matsapha Police College was broken into and cleaned out by a thug who police apprehended at Mbhuleni location.

The suspect broke into the house on Saturday night and got caught on Wednesday, thanks to Mbhuleni community police. What is more interesting is that he stole at Police College, which was full of police officers and recruits, went on to wear Matsenjwa’s full uniform for a couple of days before community police suspected something amiss and called the police.

“He took items worth over E50 000 and these include my electronics being a Sony home theatre, LCD TV, power banks, headphones, a number of Adidas and Nike sneakers, top brands T-shirts, bag, leather jacket, medals from local and international competitions, plus a watch worth E8 000 from overseas among other things,” Matsenjwa confirmed.

He said it was a mystery how he managed a national record because his mind was already disturbed at the time after he got a call from home about the house break-in.
“I met and spoke to the suspect and have already identified my things which I’m grateful for. He was caught wearing the uniform with my force number to make matters worse,” he said.

Matsenjwa said that at the time this reporter called him, police from Matsapha, Esigodvweni were still investigating the matter and a string of other reported house break-ins at the college.

“This started in 2015 but some of the victims recovered their property and this time, not only my house was  attacked but also another by a neighbour, so police were trying to establish if it was the same person they got with my things,” he said.
