SWAZIBANK CUP COULD START IN COURT

MBABANE – Uyayifuna Na! That is this year’s SwaziBank Cup tagline which loosely translates to ‘do you want it?’ Well, First Division League outfit Hub Sundowns, also first winners of the 15-year-old knockout tournament, want it too.

But, not in the manner they have been given a chance to play in it with E1 million as the champions’ prize in the increased E2.6 million package.

Hub wrote to the PLS, FA and SwaziBank seeking clarity on the eliminations, when they ought to start in last 32 as per the norm over the last 14 editions.

Hub had anticipated getting a response by close of business yesterday from the FA but got nothing, at least it was gathered. From the tournament’s Management Committee (MC), they received a fixture and a copy of the Rules and Regulations confirming games begin on Tuesday night.

“We see now in the Rules and Regulations that the Article covers the elimination stage but to us, we know only the FA Competitions Committee makes rules and gets them approved by the FA Executive Committee before we also accent to them,” said Hub’s Director Steve Horton.

He said given the situation that all the things they sought from the FA were not responded to by close of business yesterday; the legal route was the next step.

eliminations

“If by Tuesday we don’t have satisfactory clarity on how we get to play in eliminations, then we’re stopping this on Tuesday morning with urgent an application,” he said.

He insisted the sponsorship agreement was clear that the PLS teams get automatic qualification just like it has always happened. Horton said all they wanted was a satisfactory clarity, otherwise they were not going to play based on the Rules and Regulations they did not accent to.
