MBABANE – A good leader is one who recognises and rewards excellence in his organisation.

This is what the National Commissioner of Police, Isaac Magagula, did yesterday when he recognised athletes from the police service who took part and excelled in the Wafa Wafa Half Marathon which took place on Sunday.

Magagula not only recognised the athletes by awarding them with certificates but also rewarded them with cash.
The rewarded athletes included Constable Winile Mnisi and Constable Samkelisiwe Tfwala who came first and third respectively in the 21km marathon under the females category.

Also rewarded were constables Zanele Mavimbela, who took the first position and Sebenele Shabalala, who came third in the 5km females category.

Those who scooped the first position in the different categories received E5 000 each while for the second and third position the reward was E3 000.

Magagula stated that the police service had found it apposite that a special function was organised to congratulate the athletes for representing the organisation with gusto and distinction during what he termed a prestigious sporting event.

“It is now in order for us to commend and applaud our participants’ athletic prowess and sterling performance which he said raised the organisation’s flag high, an exploit which resonated with the good old days when it was regarded as a powerhouse in the athletics fraternity.
According to Magagula, it was good that females dominated by putting up a gallant performance in the event which he said helped in keeping the noble tradition of sporting excellence alive.
He made reference to other athletes from the police service who have excelled in the past who he said had made the organisation a force to be reckoned with.
