MANZINI – She might not have won in all the categories but Swakhile Dlamini emerged as the overall winner of the annual SWAKI Gala.

The first swimming session of the year took place at Enjabulweni High School yesterday, which saw over 100 swimmers battling it out in different stroke.
The 50 metres backstroke winner was the fairest of them all when all the results of the other events were combined.

Dlamini got 77 points and she was tied with Jessica Njoroge to win the trophy of the outstanding swimmer in the SWAKI Gala Swimming Competition.
The Swim Lab Club swimmer also excelled in Girls under 12 100 metres freestyle where she came second. She also got the same position on the Girls under 12 50 metres break stroke. Meanwhile her competitor, Njoroge won Girls under 16 50 metres backstroke, Girls 100 metres butterfly, Ladies under 16 100 metres freestyle.

The 12-year backstroke specialist said she attributed her achievement to proper training and the support she got from both her parents and coach Welcome Nhlabatsi.
“I am so excited that I was the overall winner of the competition, I did not see this coming. I am honoured and this will motivate me to do better in my other competition. Tomorrow (today), I will also partake in the Swazi Mile,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, Jessica Njoroge, who is from the Sharks Swimming Club was not available for comment as by the time of the prize presentation, she had already left the event.
