SITEKI – Celebrated South African soccer legend Doctor ‘16V’ Khumalo has hailed slain soccer boss Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze for affording his former team, Kaizer Chiefs, an opportunity to play Mbabane Swallows.

Khumalo, in a statement sent to the Gamedze family at the memorial, said Gamedze was a pillar of strength by extending an exchange technical expertise programme during his reign as assistant coach to Stuart Baxter at the ‘Amakhosi’.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to the Gamedze family and the entire soccer fraternity. May the soul of Victor be at peace with our Heavenly Father. I am deeply saddened by the news of your loss. I pray that God will grant you the strength as a family. My most sincere condolences. I can’t imagine what you must be feeling right now, but I want you to know that we are just as hurt. Please accept my condolences,” he said.

He added: “There is so much I can say about Vic but let me also take this opportunity on behalf of Stuart Baxter (S.A. National team Head Coach) he was a pillar of strength during our reins at KC, to afford us an opportunity to play some important friendly games against his mighty Swallows team.”

Khumalo stated that his final word to Gamedze family would be to say, “Although it’s difficult today to see the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. May his soul rest in peace.”

Gamedze was laid to rest at KaLanga yesterday morning in a funeral procession attended by over 10 000 people.
