MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows are confident of maintaining their cutting edge in respect of slain boss Victor Gamedze.

Team coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati highlighted that their boss’s demise was like a stab in the heart, but stressed on the need to keep shining in his honour. He was interviewed after Gamedze’s memorial service, which attracted about 5 000 mourners at the Prince of Wales Ground in Mbabane yesterday.

“It’s difficult to come to terms with the situation, but we will play each game for Gamedze.
“When we return to training on Tuesday, we hope the players will have the strength to soldier on,” said the reputable gaffer, who has steered the side to a 23-game unbeaten run in all competitions this season.

Asked to share some of the memories with Gamedze, Vilakati said the deceased told him not to change the team’s style, but improve it.
Vilakati further thanked royalty, as well as the Gamedze and Dlamini families for the support during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, guests and football officials from all walks of life made a stop at the venue to pay their last respects to the fallen hero.

They were led by South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Orlando Pirates Administration Manager Floyd Mbele and Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung. Other notable attendees in the soccer fraternity were National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa, who celebrated Gamedze’s commitment and passion for the game, as well as Sihlangu head coach, Pieter De Jongh. The latter, in an interview, reiterated that Gamedze, who was also the national team’s Project Committee Chairman, supported his philosophy.
