EZULWINI – Swazis’ sorrow is South Africans’ sorrow, so is our pain.

South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Orlando Pirates Administration Manager Floyd Mbele and Kaizer Chiefs Manager Bobby Motoung jetted in yesterday afternoon through the King Mswati III International Airport to join the nation in mourning the late Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chairman Victor Gamedze.

Immediately after touching down on Swazi soil, they were led by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphala and his delegation of football chiefs to Gamedze’s Mbabane residence in Dalriach to pass their heartfelt condolences. Also in the visitors’ delegation was Kaizer Chiefs’ Communications Officer Vinny Maphosa and the trio will attend the memorial service at the Prince of Wales Ground, in the capital city this morning.

The South Africans were welcomed into Gamedze’s homestead by the late business mogul’s in-laws who included, among others Prince Thumbumuzi and Prince Nathi. Also present was Secretary to Cabinet Mbuso Dlamini and Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament Marwick Khumalo.

Relaying their condolences as per the order from their bosses, Dr Irvin Khoza and Kaizer Motaung, the pair said they remained shell shocked with what happened.

“I did not expect such to happen in Swaziland- a peaceful country. We were hurt when we received the news hence we are here to show solidarity. Just last year, we were discussing with Victor how we can take the idea of the King’s Cup forward following our teams’ appearances in 2015,” Bobby Motoung said.

Mbele described Gamedze as humble and visionary person.
“In our chats, you will say chairman and he will always have his head down and that is how humble he was. He was a smart dresser and a people’s person. His success in business gave investors confidence in Swazi football hence sponsors were flocking in.

He had aspirations not only for his team Mbabane Swallows but the players; hence he had the idea of buying a stake in the PSL which could not go through because of FIFA regulations. A gentle giant gone too soon,” Mbele said.

Immediately after meeting Gamedze’s family, the South African delegation was whisked to the Royal Swazi hotel where they were to address members of the Fourth Estate and pass the PSL and South African Government condolences.
