LOBAMBA, MANZINI – Hub giants Manzini Wanderers caused a massive twist in the MTN League title race with a 1-0 win over serious contenders Young Buffaloes.

Captain Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya scored a minute from the hour mark with a glancing header to not only give his side a confidence booster win, but tilt the title race to Mbabane Swallows’ favour. Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati’s team had already done their fair share of the business against Manzini Sundowns at Mavuso Sports Centre with a Felix Badenhorst goal on the stroke of half time. Before last night’s games, Swallows and Buffaloes were joint leaders in the race with equal number of points, goal-difference and goals scored. They were alphabetically separated from the top.

However, the ‘Beautiful Birds’ will hopefully wake up this morning with smiles on their faces and will surely be grateful to the ‘Weslians’ for having removed the menacing Buffaloes off their back.
There was a lot at stake for both teams going to last night’s game. The irony is that both joint leaders were up against their hoodoo opponents in Manzini Sundowns and Manzini Wanderers respectively.

Beyond the push for the top spot in the MTN League title race, the teams were nursing their cherished unbeaten run this season. For Mbabane Swallows it was a record-breaking 38-game unbeaten run that stretched back from last season.

The victory took them 39 games unbeaten in the league and still counting. Meanwhile, for Dominic Kunene and his charges, Shana’s goal all but ended a run that had gone 16 games. Green Mamba were the last team to beat them in the competition on May 25 this year, with a 3-0 win over the army side in what was the final match of the 2016/17 season.
