MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows are out of the race for the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) team of the year awards.

They were left out together with South Africa’s Supersport United after the announcement of the top three yesterday. The three out of five remaining club are TP Mazembe, Al Ahly and Wydad Athletics Club.

The top three for all the categories in the awards were unveiled yesterday in Accra, Ghana.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by CAF President Ahmad, CAF First Vice President Kwesi Nyantakyi, CAF Executive Committee member, Amaju Pinnick, with Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, the guest of honour.

Swallows rewrote the country history books as they were the first club locally to be nominated for the best Africa Club award. The nomination comes after their historical showing in the CAF Confederation Cup where they reached the group stages for the first time.

‘The Birds’ will be campaigning in the CAF Champions League this season after winning the MTN Premier League where they take on Lesotho’s Bantu FC in the preliminary. Young Buffaloes will campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
According to caf.com, the awards gala will take place on January 4, 2018 in Accra, Ghana.
