MBABANE – The Joe Dlamini Golf Day has unlocked doors for local professional golfers.

Following the success of the inaugural event at Royal Swazi Sun Golf Course in Ezulwini last Sunday, a decision to form a Joe Dlamini Golf Foundation has been taken. According to one of the organisers of the golf day, Meshack Zwane; the foundation seeks to raise funds for Swazi professional golfers to be able to play without financial limitations both local and abroad.

“Through the foundation, talent will also be identified.
“It will also create playing opportunities for Swazi professional players locally so that they will be able to take on the world’s best once they have proved that they are ready,” said Zwane.

To realise the dream, Zwane said Dlamini was appealing to sponsors from local companies and government to help fund the foundation to help grow the sport.

“The foundation will work with development to make sure that the younger generation has a chance to grow to reach professional level,” said Zwane.

The Golf Day, on the other hand, will be annual. Dlamini got E50 000 from the proceeds of this year’s festivities.
Meanwhile, Dlamini is the country’s celebrated golf legend following dominance while playing in South Africa during his hey-days. He won the famous Marley Classic five times. He turned professional in 1980 and by 1986 he had shot up from 65 to 18 on the order of merit charts. In 2014 he was inducted into the Southern Africa Golf Hall of Fame.
