RED LIONS ARE BROKE

MBABANE – It never rains but pours for Red Lions as the team is struggling financially.

This follows the co-director; Ngudze’s Mamba’s turning his back on the Fairview-based side. Mamba stopped supporting the team financially after the team’s co-directors; Ntuthuko Dlamini and Phinda Dlamini removed him as PLS Board member. Mamba was on record saying he would stop supporting the team if Elvis Dube was made the team’s Chief Operations Officer instead of former CEO Comfort Shongwe. He also said he had spent E400 000 since the start of the season. Shongwe, on the other hand, has also confided to the Sports Desk that he has resigned from his position following the misunderstanding among the team directors. The team is struggling to pay salaries since all the directors are not pumping money into the team.

Vusie Hall, Amabhubesi’s Manager, admitted that they were broke. “Look, things are bad here, we are struggling but things will get back to normal. I and Elvis Dube are now in charge of the day’s running of the team. We try to contribute what we have in our own coffers,” Hall said. When asked if they had smoked the peace pipe with Mamba, Hall said all the directors were aware of the situation. “Mamba knows what is happening in the camp. The other directors know that too. I have spoken to Mr. Mamba and he has promised us something although he is out of the country at the moment. ‘‘Thiediela Thwala, who was in charge of the team last season, is currently in the USA studying but he will be back this festive and we do hope he will help us as we believe that at red Lions, you don’t resign,” he said. Hall further said what motivated them was that they were still competing in the Ingwenyama Cup.

“The fact that we are still in the Ingwenyama Cup is a big motivation. We are facing a strong team, Mbabane Citizens, and we have to win by all means in order to be in a better position to pocket home a reasonable package,” he said.
He also made it clear that the door was open for Comfort Shongwe to return to the team. “Like I said, we don’t fire people here, but they leave voluntarily and we can’t stop them. However, everyone is welcome back in the team because we never fired them in the first place,” he explained. Meanwhile, efforts to reach Mamba were futile as his mobile phone was unavailable.
